The top 10 finalists who will be vying for the coveted title of Miss Drag South Africa 2024 in Cape Town have been revealed.

Based on the ethos of “Drag with a purpose”, Miss Drag South Africa (MDSA) is a national pageant that provides a platform where “change agents are cultivated to engage in transformational work that is community-oriented and community-specific.”

The event is held each year in a different city, having in the past been hosted in Stellenbosch, Gqeberha, and Tshwane. The reigning title holder, Miz Cambell, was crowned in a hybrid virtual edition during the Covid-19 lockdown. This year, the pageant returns to the Western Cape.

“The ideal Miss Drag South Africa is a member of the queer community who is passionate about social change and able to advocate for inclusion and solidarity with the aim of creating an affirming, open, just, and enabling society,” explains MDSA director, Queen Enigma von Hamburg.

Earlier this month, the finalists were invited to a “Glam Camp” in Cape Town, where they engaged in several activities focusing on the core values of Miss Drag South Africa and the aspirations that the winner ought to embody and model.

The Top 10 2024 finalists, in no particular order, are:

  • Anastasia K Boney – Northern Cape
  • Empress – Free State
  • LaPont – Northern Cape
  • Marsha Garcia – Western Cape
  • The Fashion Doll – Eastern Cape
  • Larissa Gordon – Western Cape
  • Whashiela Xholiswa Xholelwa Bahlekazi – Northern Cape
  • Ycer – Limpopo
  • Shuvandre Anastacia Rodriguez – Western Cape
  • Viola Angel Sicarias – Western Cape

The finalists also participated in a glamorous event hosted at one of Cape Town’s sought-after LGBT+ venues, Honey & Dora. The formalities included a sash ceremony attended by media partners, corporate businesses, and the general public.

The finalists then battled it out on stage by showcasing their talents, ranging from inspirational and emotional spoken word poetry performances to dancing and lip-sync battles.

The Crowning Gala will take place on Saturday, 4th May 2024, at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town. Ticket sales are open and available at Webtickets or any Pick ‘n Pay for only R195 per person.

The Miss Drag South Africa Organization (NPC) invites potential sponsors to support the organisation in any form by contacting von Hamburg at info@missdragsa.co.za.
