Advertorial

Tunisia’s recently elected Islamic ruling party has said that it will respect the “individual freedoms” of women and gays and lesbians.

According to

Chaibi noted that this is “a matter of dignity” because society sees homosexuals “as undervalued”.

He also revealed that the country does not plan to force women to wear veils in public or to ban the use of alcohol.

Chaibi said that the government will rather educate citizens on the dangers of alcohol.

Under the current Tunisian Penal Code, those found guilty of engaging in homosexual sex can be punished with up to three years in prison.
