Property mogul and TV celebrity Donald Trump, who might run for president of the US, says that he is opposed to same-sex marriage.

Speaking on Fox News, Trump confirmed that he is “tempted” to run for the presidency in 2012 should he not like the other candidates.

When asked about same-sex marriage, he replied: “No, I’m just not in favour of gay marriage. I live in New York. New York is a place with lots of gays, and I think it is great. But I’m not in favor of gay marriage.”

The 64 year old host of The Apprentice reality show, who has been married three times, previously had to deal with the controversy around same-sex marriage in the US.

Trump is the owner of the Miss USA pageant and in 2009 defended Miss California Carrie Prejean’s controversial answer to a question saying that she believed that “marriage should be between a man and a woman”.

“…that was her belief. … It wasn’t a bad answer, that was simply her belief,” he said at the time.
