ADAM LAMBERT PERFORMANCE CANCELLED

Advertorial

The ABC network has cancelled a planned appearance by singer Adam Lambert on its Good Morning America show following his racy performance at the American Music Awards (AMA) on Sunday.

The performance, which featured Lambert simulating oral sex with a male dancer and kissing a male keyboardist, drew the ire of the conservative Parents’ Television Council (PTC) and led to over 1,500 complaints to the network.

“Given his controversial American Music Awards performance, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning,” ABC said in a statement.

“Obviously, I respect their decision – they gotta do what they gotta do,” Lambert said in an interview with Ryan Seacrest. “It’s too bad, I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me. They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren’t happy about it.”

The PTC described Adam’s performance on the awards show as “tasteless” and “vulgar”.

“Every corporate sponsor of the ‘American Music Awards’ can rest assured that they will hear from the Parents Television Council and its members,” said the organisation. “Advertisers spend billions of dollars on television every year to influence viewer behaviour. Their behaviour influence does not cease when the commercial break is over. Every advertiser will be held accountable for underwriting the AMA program’s content, including the simulated oral sex scene.”
