Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has accused gay activists of victimising him further after he used an anti-gay slur in an altercation with the Black Eyed Peas.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) slammed Hilton for calling band member will.i.am a “faggot” during a dispute outside a nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning following the MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto, Canada.

During the altercation Hilton was allegedly punched by the Black Eyed Peas’ manager Liborio Molina.

GLAAD called on the openly gay Hilton to apologise for his “vulgar anti-gay slurs that feed a climate of hatred and intolerance toward our community”.

In response, Hilton – who ironically is a former employee of the organisation – told TMZ that he was “saddened GLAAD chose to victimize me further by criticizing me for how I non-violently dealt with a very scary situation that, unfortunately, turned violent”.

He added that, “While I doubt I will get an apology from GLAAD, nor do I expect one, I would just hope people know how difficult it is to intellectualize a situation and think rationally when a thug disguised as a musician is screaming at your face and intimidating you. I am just very fortunate and grateful that nothing more serious happened to me”.

In a statement on his website, Hilton further elaborated: “I wanted to hurt [will.i.am] with the word I chose, not anyone else. Unfortunately, the one who got hurt was me and, subsequently, a lot of other people.”
