OBAMA MOCKS GAY PROTESTORS
US President Barack Obama has apparently made light of protestors demanding LGBT rights at a fundraising event in California.
Angry and frustrated LGBT demonstrators packed the streets outside the Beverly Hilton waving signs and chanting “Do Ask, Do Tell”, “Full Equality Now” and “Out of the court, into the streets, we are ready to fight, we won’t be beat.”
Many were demanding that Obama stick to his campaign promise to ensure LGBT rights when he took office. A promise which critics say he has yet to deliver on.
Inside, President Barack Obama and a group of celebrities enjoyed a “grilled organic chicken and sun choked rosemary mashed potatoes dinner” to raise funds for the Democratic National Committee.
In his speech to the guests, Obama noted that he was aware of the protestors and their placards: “‘One of them said, ‘Obama keep your promise.’ I thought that’s fair,” the president commented, and then added, “I don’t know which promise he was talking about.”
The guests, who reportedly paid over $30,000 per couple, responded with laughter. The LGBT community in California is up in arms over this week’s court ruling maintaining the ban on same-sex marriage in the state.
….. Obama’s right, which promise? He made so many in his pre-election speeches and now he’s realising he cannot stick to them all. So early into his presidency and already the cracks are starting to show. But it’s wrong of him to make a joke out of such a controversial and important issue. He should’ve used the opportunity to reiterate some of the promises he made or mention any sort of future plans he has in mind, but like a typical politician it’s easier to hide behind a joke than stand up for equality & truth. Take the shame, Obama, take the shame.
