ADRIEN BRODY TALKS GAY ROLES

Adrien Brody, who won an Oscar for his performance in 2002’s The Pianist, has shown little humour while discussing his gay roles and fan base with The Advocate magazine.

Interviewed by journalist Brandon Voss, the 35 year old actor was asked if he had visited gay bars to research his roles in films such as 1997’s The Last Time I Committed Suicide and 1999’s Summer of Sam.

“I did hang out in that world. But, I mean, I’ve gone to gay bars before. It’s not like that’s something I would only enter for a role. Obviously I’m not there to pick up anybody, but I’m not afraid to hang out in a predominantly gay establishment,” he responded.

While he admitted that he’d be disappointed if guys stopped hitting on him, he refused to say who he’d choose for an on-screen male love interest in a possible future gay role.

“You want me to name an actor? No, I can’t answer that question… See, you ask me how I deal with rumours, and I also have to deal with not adding fuel to them. Something that would be a completely innocuous comment on my part will be completely taken out of context by the next journalist, so I’d appreciate it if you were understanding about that.”

The actor was particularity unimpressed, however, when asked if it’s true what they say about a man with a prominent nose, replying, “Why would you do that to somebody? You and I don’t know each other, right? We’re complete strangers, actually. I’m being respectful to you, so you have to extend the same courtesy.”

Voss retorted that it’s all in good fun. “I’m trying to show your sense of humour here,” he said. To which Brody responded: “I didn’t sign up for that.”
