SIMELANE TRIAL DELAYED AGAIN

Advertorial

The trial of the five men accused of the hate crime murder of former Banyana Banyana soccer player Eudy Simelane has been postponed for the fourth time, reports Behind The Mask.

The trial was postponed until September 1 by Judge Betty Lesufi at the Springs Magistrate’s Court to give the state more time to compile its case against the men who have remained in custody.

According to the website, Judge Lesufi reluctantly agreed to the delay telling State Prosecutor Eddie Maloba that this would be the last time she was prepared to postpone the trial and that in future “no stories will be entertained.”

The judge addressed family and friends at the court telling them that she understood their frustration and the seriousness of the case.

Simelane was assaulted, raped and murdered in the Tornado section of Kwa Thema in the East Rand at the end of April.

It is believed that she was targeted because she was a lesbian.
