MCQP (Mother City Queer Projects), dubbed Africa’s biggest queer party, has announced that the head of cape Town Pride, impresario Ian McMahon has joined its ranks.

MCQP’s Egon Klein says, “Ian has such an incredible track record of eventing and marketing for the Pink community of Cape Town, his reputation for organisation and passion are of huge benefit to MCQP going forward.”

Ian, who is a partner in night venues The Loft Lounge (lounge and bar) and Gravity (dance club) has also been host to many successful queer club dance events such as the well attended MASK NYE ’07-’08.

Ian sits as chairperson of Cape Town PRIDE and is director for the PRIDE Shelter Trust.

“I am so thrilled to be a part of MCQP, it has such a great tradition in Cape Town and I am confident my input will help this iconic event grow to new heights,” says Mr McMahon.

Klein adds, “It’s time for that queer creative edge of MCQP to return, for Cape Town to relive those days of the best and most artistic costume party in South Africa and internationally. I am positive that having Ian as our partner will help us get there.”

MCQP also announced that it is calling for briefs for the role of creative Director. The annual event was conceptualised in 1994 by Andre Vorster and is a popular event on the city’s calendar.

With themes changing each year, and a costume being a requirement to get in – the creativity and originality has it rated as one of the ‘must-attend’ parties in the world by US’s Out Magazine.
