The Spice Girls have announced that they have cancelled all planned shows outside North America and Europe, including those in Cape Town.

The girls made the announcement on their website on Friday, saying that when they reunited for the first time as a five piece in nine years last June for a world tour, no-one was quite sure how the world would respond.

The girls planned to visit Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina in January, but due to the massive demand for tickets in Europe and North America, additional shows were added, which meant that the group has not ventured outside these main music markets.

Now they, say those planned shows in Beijing, Sydney, Cape Town and Buenos Aires will not be rescheduled.

According to the website, “Due to the phenomenal demand for tickets in the UK and the US along with the touring logistics for such a massive production it was not possible to fit everything in.

“Sadly the tour needs to come to an end by the end of February due to family and personal commitments for Emma, Geri, Mel B, Melanie C and Victoria.”

The group added, “Really sorry if we didn’t get to see you this time round. We all have other commitments in our lives now but who knows what will happen next.”

It is believed that by the time the tour ends on 26 February in Toronto, the Spice Girls will have performed to over half a million people.
