OUT-Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender (LGBT) Well-being is a progressive non-governmental organisation (NGO) working towards ensuring the rights of LGBT people, and is based in Tshwane. OUT provides direct health and mental health services, conducts research and implements mainstreaming and advocacy programmes. OUT wishes to fill the following post:

Mainstreaming Manager

OUT seeks a Mainstreaming Manager responsible for the management of OUT’s mainstreaming programmes. These programmes are mainly within the education and trauma service sectors. It includes development of partnerships within Government/NGO’s, policy review and inclusion, review of training materials and inclusion of LGBT issues therein, development of LGBT sensitisation trainings, managing the implementation of sensitisation trainings, product development and distribution thereof, and providing on-going support to mainstream partners.

The ideal candidate must have: at least 3 years experience in the effective implementation of mainstreaming and/or training programmes; a graduate degree in psychology, the health sciences, development studies or related fields. S/he must work from a rights based approach, be able to independently manage and develop programmes; have management experience in smaller and larger scale programmes; be able to systematically record programmes and its impact; be able to enthuse and manage a small team; have a solid understanding of issues facing LGBT people and how it impacts on their health; be a team player; and have a long term commitment to LGBT equality.

OUT is also seeking to fill three short term contract positions. Applicants can apply for any number of these positions.

Entry into the Vuka Awards

The ideal applicant must conceptualise and produce an entry into this year’s Vuka Awards. The entry must be original and promote the work of OUT and LGBT equality and human rights. The position will be remunerated and there is a small budget for production costs. The timeframes are negotiable within the deadlines of the Awards.

Fundraising event

The ideal candidate must successfully event manage a high profile fundraising event for OUT. The event must have high profile entertainment/attractions and seats must be sold in order to raise funds. It will coincide with the Johannesburg Pride Parade 2007. The ideal candidate will receive remuneration from funds generated from this event and these terms are negotiable. Timeframes are negotiable.

Newsletter editor

The ideal candidate will successfully produce four editions of the OUT newsletter. These editions will be in July & October 2007; and in January and March 2006. Each edition will be 16 pages and cover relevant organisational and broader LGBT developments and be in printed and electronic format. The remuneration is R3000.00 per edition.
