JOB OPENINGS AT OUT

OUT-Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender (LGBT) Well-being is a progressive non-governmental organisation (NGO) working towards ensuring services and rights of LGBT people, and is based in Tshwane. OUT provides direct health and mental health services, conducts research and implements mainstreaming and advocacy programmes. OUT wishes to fill the following two posts:

Social worker/Direct Services Programme Officer

OUT seeks a qualified social worker responsible for management and implementation of direct sexual and mental health services. Under sexual health services, the person will be responsible for the management of direct training/sensitisation sessions as well as the management of direct health services. Under mental health services, s/he will be responsible for the management of primary health care programmes. It includes the management and implementation of regular community building activities for a range of clients. In addition, s/he could get involved in product development and mainstreaming activities.

The ideal candidate must be registered with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa as a social worker. S/he must preferably have at least three years experience as a social worker within the Non-Profit sector; work from a rights based approach; illustrate good project management and report writing skills; be flexible and a team player; have a strong commitment and understanding of LGBT equality; and be able to work independently. Salary is negotiable between R109 728- R159 170 p.a. (total cost to company).

Mainstreaming Manager

OUT seeks a Mainstreaming Manager responsible for the management of the organisation’s mainstreaming programmes. These programmes are presently within the education and trauma service sectors. Activities include: development of programme partnerships within government/NGO’s; policy review and development; development of LGBT sensitisation training processes and materials; facilitation of sensitisation trainings; and product development and the provision of on-going support to mainstream partners. S/he could also get involved in advocacy efforts.

The ideal candidate must have: at least 3 years experience in the effective implementation of training programmes; a graduate degree in psychology, the health sciences, development studies or related fields. S/he must work within a rights framework; be able to independently manage and develop programmes; be able to work at a high level with both governmental and civil society sectors; be able to systematically record programmes and its impact; be able to enthuse and manage a small team; have a solid understanding of issues facing LGBT people; be a team player; and have a long term commitment to LGBT equality. Salary is negotiable between R175 154- R264 448 p.a. (total cost to company).
