1ST MARRIED COUPLE’S DEATH THREATS
The Cape Argus has reported that the first same-sex couple to get married in South Africa has received death threats.
According to the newspaper, Western Cape game rangers Vernon and Tony Gibbs-Halls – who married on the 1st of December last year in George – were the victims of two anonymous cellphone calls which threatened their lives.
Vernon Gibbs-Halls told the Argus that, “One caller told us ‘you might have been the first to get married, but you’ll be the first to die’ and another said ‘ons gaan julle moffies dood maak’ (we’re going to kill you gays).”
He said that while they had reported the calls to the police, “it was water off a duck’s back”. He added that they had otherwise received an overwhelming positive response locally and from around the world to their tying the knot.
The couple are acknowledged as the first couple to marry under the Civil Union Act, which legalised same-sex marriage in South Africa.

poor homophobes….. Wel coming from a mainly hetero working environment….vernon and tony should expect jealous ,or those with different views to make a statement….but a death threat or two is more than likely from someone in their close community…more likely a closeted boy who just wishes he was in their shoes…
