BROKEBACK KISS WINS AWARD
Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger walked away with the best screen kiss gong for their smooch in Brokeback Mountain at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards this weekend. Gyllenhaal also scooped the best performance award for his role in the film about a love affair between two cowboys.
The annual MTV Movie Awards is known for its quirky award show and categories – including best villain, fight and sexiest performance. The awards are decided by votes from movie fans.
“This is a real honour, not just for me and Heath but for all of you, that you picked this movie and this kiss over all the other ones,” said Gyllenhaal, accepting the best kiss award at the event, which was held in a Sony Studios soundstage in California.
The comedy Wedding Crashers was chosen as the best movie, and also won for best on-screen team (Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson) and breakthrough performance for Isla Fisher.
Hunky Hayden Christensen took home the best villain award for his performance as Darth Vader in Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith, while equally desirable Christian Bale, won for best hero in Batman Begins.
Best fight went to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt for Mr. & Mrs. Smith. “Angelina and Brad are stuck in traffic. They’re doing their thing and we all wish them a big congratulations.” said Colin Farrell who presented and accepted the award on behalf of the celebrity couple.
