The gay-themed movie, Noah’s Arc: Jumping the Broom, has been nominated for three NAACP image awards.

The film, which opened in limited release in the US, is based on the popular television cable series.

Featuring a cast primarily made up of men of colour, it is considered to be groundbreaking for it’s positive portrayal of black gay men.

The film has been nominated for Best Independent Motion Picture, Outstanding Writing for a Motion Picture and Best Director for a Motion Picture.

The NAACP Image Awards are presented annually by the American National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to honour outstanding people of colour in film, television, music, and literature.

Last year, Dirty Laundry became the first gay film to be nominated for the NAACP Image awards, but failed to win the award for Best Independent Motion Picture.

The nomination of these films by the NAACP is considered significant in that it reflects a growing acceptance of LGBT people within the African American community in the US.

The winners of the NAACP Image Awards will be announced on 12 February.
