A gay rights group has called on the UK’s Prince Harry to apologise for making a homophobic comment in a video.

In the recently leaked video, which was filmed in 2006 when he was a cadet at Sandhurst, the royal military college, Harry is heard to say off-camera “How do you feel? Gay? Queer on the side?”

He also used a number of racist terms about members of his platoon including “our little Paki friend” (referring to a Pakistani colleague) and “raghead,” a derogatory term for an Arab.

While Harry has now apologised for the racist remarks, he has not done so for the homophobic term he used in the video.

In a statement to Britain’s Pink News, Ben Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall, said: “It’s conspicuous that Prince Harry has expressed regret for his racist remarks, but not yet for his homophobic ones.”

He called on the prince to swiftly “offer an appropriate apology, in particular to those lesbian and gay personnel currently on active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

The British Army has begun an investigation into the matter.
