OH! BAR CLOSES
Hot on the heels of the recent closing of Therapy in Newtown, a statement from the owners of Oh! Bar has announced the immediate closure of one of Joburg’s gay institutions.
This leaves the city’s gay nightlife at a new low; the only gay bars that remain open in Joburg are Risqué in Bryanston and Simply Blue in Braamfontein.
According to Stephen Hadden, one of Oh!’s owners, the Melville bar “fell victim to fraudulent swindle and rather nefarious deceit by two persons who pretended they were going to buy it.”
He claims that their inept management left the bar bankrupt. He also says that they squandered large sums of cash and alcohol.
“It is therefore my decision to close oh bar immediately and pursue these individuals for criminal negligence and fraud,” says Hadden.
It is unclear if the bar’s closure is permanent and attempts by Mambaonline to contact Hadden for more information have been unsuccessful.

I’m amazed too. What amazes me is that the club ‘icons’ are still incapable of proper spelling.
Saddened!. In the last few months I noticed that things weren’t quite the same as before. The bartenders were always great. They were the guys that kept us going back with their upbeat mood and the effort they made to keep us entertained. Philip, Wayne, Andre, Chris and Bruce were especially good barmen, at least from this patron’s point of view. I was never disappointed by them. Unfortunately, as from September service levels just dropped. A certain manager , -the tall, skinny one-, was actually rude to some patrons once and it created an unpleasant atmosphere. I never went back again.
To the men who built up Oh!Bar all those years ago, my heartfelt thanks for many hours of joy and fun. To the guys who allowed it to go under, shame on you. The rest of the community has lost yet another fun place to enjoy itself.
I sincerely hope that the owners will reopen soon in Melville, or close by. It is so close to the major universities and to the student residences.
