SPIELBERG SUPPORTS GAY MARRIAGE CAMPAIGN
Hollywood director Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw have donated $100,000 towards a campaign to ensure same-sex marriage stays legal in California.
The campaign aims to defeat Proposition 8, a proposed constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, which will be put to the state’s voters on November 4.
Gay and lesbian marriage was legalised by the California Supreme Court in May this year.
“By writing discrimination into our state constitution, Proposition 8 seeks to eliminate the right of each and every citizen in our state to marry regardless of sexual orientation. Such discrimination has NO place in California’s constitution, or any other,” Spielberg and Capshaw said in a statement.
Last week, actor Brad Pitt announced that he would also contribute $100,000 to fight Proposition 8.
